Legolas daggers preliminary finish by Celyddon Legolas daggers preliminary finish by Celyddon
This is what the daggers will eventually look like.  I tried to do a little bit of 'woodgraining' with paint on the handles since the mottled texture of the EVA foam lends itself well to that; they feel REALLY good in my hands.  (The wood graining is subtle and difficult to see in the picture.)

The blade, I found, has a very distinct grain--I took several layers of Gesso to the upper half of the blade, which I will sand down in hopes of hiding that grain.  (The portions under the gold won't matter since they aren't seen.)  The filigree bits have been tacked down with glue to the gold pieces; they will be sealed, along with the rest of the knives, with Mod Podge, mostly as a protectant against the elements.

Not bad for a first time wooden prop, I think.  (Yes, there are two of them--you can see the other in the far upper right of the picture, blade portion still wrapped in fabric so that I didn't damage it while working on the handles.)
