You'll note that I've changed my cosplay wish list.  Part of it is being more realistic about my body type, time constraints, and comfort levels at conventions--I can't both be press and walk around in full armor (I've done that, and running a camera while worrying about your costume is very stressful).  I've gained weight, changed proportions, and can't use my old patterns without alterations.  I've added simpler, more comfortable costumes because--let's face it--I'm getting older and can't as easily cosplay 15yr old anime girls.  My dayjob is becoming more and more complex and time consuming, which is a good thing for my career, but bad for my cosplay hobby.  Thus, the changing of the list.

Also, I'm trashing (getting rid of) Irelia.  I know I spent a lot of time and effort on her, and money as well, but I'm not happy with my progress.  Because I'm in such a rush for the convention, I'm making mistakes I can't remedy, taking shortcuts I shouldn't, and basically am racing through it without properly fitting any of it.  It's stressing me out, frustrating me, and upsetting me.  I can't fix a lot of the issues because they're foundational, aka I'd have to start over from scratch, and I'm just not into Irelia enough to want to do that.  So I'll take the experience gained--I came up with a new technique during the process, which you can catch on our podcast--and simply move on.

I think I'll simply have to do less each year with what time I have.  For now, career comes first, so while I will still cosplay--I enjoy it--I will simply be doing it slower.

WIP Irelia Psyblade, Painted
Irelia's psyblade painted. The lighting isn't the greatest, I know. I'll take better pics when it's finished. There is a light ombre shading with pale pink acrylics at the edge of each blade; that is purposeful (and accurate with the original). Just need to cut the rear styrene plates, attach them, do paint touchups, and attach the four blades in this configuration (probably with wooden pegs instead of magnets this time).

I know, I haven't posted my work in forever.  But I moved into a new apartment and was finally able to get back to working on cosplay; my next project is Order of the Lotus Irelia from League of Legends.  This is the core of her psyblade (I don't know if it has a formal name, but that's what I'm calling it) made from EVA foam; it's just shy of 5 feet long.  I took the pic before I beveled the blade edges, so that's done too.  The core will be reinforced with 1/2" square dowels, and then the whole thing will be covered with styrene.  Detailing will be done with styrene and dimensional paint.  There are four quarters (each blade is separate) to this piece, and they'll be held together with neodymium magnets so that I can take them apart in sections for photos.  There will also be an embedded magnet near the bottom so I can do the pose from the official splash art and make it look like I'm holding it with psychic power (I'm not doing the Lexan/plexiglass plate in the middle as most people do).  (The magnet will attach to a washer that will be worn on a 'thumb ring' made of clear PVC.)  There will be a yellow LED globe in the middle suspended by monofilament if I can manage it.  Should be able to finish this up in a weekend once I get the supplies; then it's onto her rear psyblade (the one that floats near her back).  I'm saving the fabric portion for last because I need to construct new slopers.  (That, and the armor will be a bit of a pain.)

Hi! I'm a young lady who enjoys many of the arts--painting, sculpting, sewing, general crafting, photography, videography, and making music. DA is primarily where I showcase my crafts, cosplay, and photography. I have a great fondness for anime and Renaissance-fantasy inspired crafts, which are mostly what you'll see here. Feel free to ask questions about technique--I'm happy to share. I also run a podcast about cosplay called CosPod, along with my co-host and co-nspirator TifaIA.

I'm an avid gamer and currently play in LFR games at conventions; I'm also a casual writer (primarily Saint Seiya fanfiction).

Nice to meet you all! Drop me a note if you'd like to chat; I'm very friendly and I rarely bite.

Thank you very kindly!  I do co-host a show about cosplay and the skills that I use to make my creations--please feel welcome to join us; I am all about teaching people to be able to accomplish what they seek to achieve.  As for my wheels...yeah, my bike probably isn't very happy with me; I've been neglecting her due to winter weather.  *wince*

Thank you!  Glad I could help.  And thank you as well for the watch.  If you're interested in more wacky cosplay stuff, take a look at CosPod, our video podcast about cosplay.  We do tutorials and talk about various aspects of cosplay once every two weeks.
